This is a humane and logical way to fix your dog’s leash issues
Comprehensive, but easy to implement, strategies from a professional
Let’s face it. Walking a dog is a pain when they are pulling, whining, barking or lunging. It becomes a vicious cycle. Your dog is a challenge to walk, so you walk less. Your dog gets less exercise, barks out of the window and gets more reactive.
Or, maybe your dog falls into the category of pretty good on leash but is unpredictable and it is stressful and annoying.
Perhaps you can take your dog to the park and he socializes like a rock star, but on leash, he is reactive.
This book helps.

Great practical advice, and not just for aggression
I love that this book contains clear, practical advice and exercises that you can use immediately with your dog and start making progress on the first day. I have read a dozen dog training books during the last few years and Jeff’s book is the rare one about behaviors that you can read and then go directly outside with your dog with confidence knowing exactly how you should perform the training. Also the exercises and techniques are not just for dogs that are “aggressive” but for any dog that is overly excited, or too focused on objects outside (squirrels, people, other dogs), or just pulls too much on the leash. After reading this book I finally understand how to use a clicker both for obedience training as well as evaluating my dog’s state of mind, and how to use both together during walks. The amazing thing about using a clicker the way Jeff teaches is that not only is my dog’s behavior changing through counter conditioning, but I am learning so much I did not know about her state of mind at any moment — can she hear my voice right now and respond to me or do we need to move/change direction first? The bottom line is that my dog and I have made surprising and quick progress with her loose leash walking using the techniques from this book without having to switch from her harness to a halter or worse!

Excellent resource that will set you up for success with your canine companion
This is an excellent book packed with great information. Don’t let the title fool you – this book goes beyond the scope of leash training. Anyone with a dog will benefit from reading this book. There is always something new to learn. As a veterinarian, it has been a great resource for me with not only my own pets, but also with discussing behavior with clients. Jeff does a great job discussing what dogs need and how to read their body language in various situations. He clearly and practically explains the concept of what clicker training is and how to apply it in your day to day. He then discusses leash training and how to address different issues. This book is well written with easy to apply concepts. I have no doubt it will set you up for success with your canine companion.

I can finally take my dog to the dog park again!
The techniques in this book have been amazing for helping my terriers get over their anxieties they developed from too little socialization during the pandemic. I have one who was anxious around new people (especially visitors to the home) and another who became anxious around other dogs. I’ve been using the techniques in Chapter 18 outside the dog park and we’re now able to go inside one again! We’re still doing leash work outside the park before going inside each visit, but it has been so great to see them making good progress towards being comfortable in busy situations. Fantastic book! You absolutely should read it!

Great book with practical dog training advice
This book is full of practical advice anyone can do to fix your dogs issues while on a leash. I enjoyed the real world exercises given that are really simple to try.The clicker training information is so easy to implement that every dog owner with leash issues should try it right away. And the step by step instruction, with illustrations, makes it not complicated to follow.I had always assumed exercise cures all aggression problems. But I discovered from the book that dogs need a combination of physical and mental stimulation to be happy. That information alone was worth the price of the book!I wish I would have found this book years ago, it would have saved me a lot of uncomfortable situations while walking my dogs. And it would have resulted in a better behaved and happier dog.

A Great Book for Anyone With a Dog
If you have a dog or even if you are thinking about getting a dog then you should strongly consider purchasing this book. I believe that it would be impossible for you to replace the knowledge in this book for the asking price. Even if you are like me and have had dogs your entire life the methods are easy to understand, and gives you even more tools for your dog or dogs, as they are all different! I feel blessed to have personally also worked with Jeff, and his training is outstanding. If you don’t learn something new I will reimburse you for this book!

Very Helpful
I have a dog who extremely aggressive on a leash. This book gives practical ways to encourage the dog to calm down instead of pulling them away. The diagrams are extremely helpful in visualizing the strategy. The concepts are easy to understand and I can see what I have been doing wrong. Highly recommended this for anyone who is struggling with walks. It also address numerous situations such as dog parks, prey drive in dogs and doggie day care.
