People, they’re the worst…these gates, they’re the best.
This gate requires common sense, not instructions. There is no sense in down-grading their rating for this reason. Why does toothpaste have instructions? People like you, who lack common sense and basic problem-solving skills. The height is better than the taller Evenflo model, because even at 5’4″ it is still possible to step over the gate, even while holding a laundry basket. We’ve had this gate set up on the stairs (prior to setting up a permanent gate) and it is possible to step over the gate and down one step without issue.Bear in mind that the bottom corners must be placed above floor molding so that all four rubber nubs have equal pressure against the wall. Even with the added height, it is easy to step over. This is not the type of gate you want to unlock and replace every time you want to go by.We have permanently mounted gates in addition to these pressure gates since each gate has its own benefits. Permanently mounted gates are just that, you never intend to move them, just pass through. If you go this route, be prepared to use the screws they provide since they are not strong enough to hold back toddlers without the extra reinforcement. These pressure gates are for blocking off an open slider (the nubs fit into the slider so it is impossible to dislodge) or the kids’ bedroom during play time. We also use them on the front door when we are looking for a cool breeze. After a few weeks you will notice that the metal leaves marks in the commonly used settings, so it is quicker to install over time.

Sturdy and Easily Modified to Let Cats Through!
I bought these gates as a bit of an experiment. I wanted to see if I could modify them to keep the new puppy contained in a tiled area while we’re not home/he’s house training AND let the cat through as she wished. So far it has been a success! I cut in a basic rectangle with ordinary house scissors, marking the areas I wanted to cut with a marker and ruler beforehand. The diamond mesh is plastic, so it cut easily. If you are not careful about how you cut, you may leave plastic prongs which could snag on kitty’s fur, so to combat that, we used the cut out segment to create an even age (you can glue it/tie it to the gate) and as an extra precaution, wrapped a 1/2 inch of felt along the rectangle (glue, sew, whatever). It all took about ten minutes. These gates have perfectly fit our needs and saved us a lot of money. The metal gates with cat doors are around $40-$80 apiece!Things to keep in mind:1. They are wood and plastic. While they are super sturdy, if your dog is a heavy chewer, you might have some problems. In that case, you would want to splurge for a metal one.2. We bought these for a temporary situation. If you’re going to use them long term, remember the size your dog will grow to be (he might outgrow the gate!)

Decent, but limited adjustment for tension
Opted for this gate for the great price from a reputable brand. It is lightweight wood, with good sized mesh. The tension settings are by half inch measurements, so it is difficult to get a precise tension setting. It is fine for now, but puppy is close to hatching an escape plan. Since I have not installed the tension mounts (installed cups on the wall/doorway to keep the gate in place), I am using the door jamb to keep the gate up. It is very easy to move the gate (which is also convenient for this particular placement). Puppy is very close to figuring out to pull the gate out of the way. Puppy is also teething and I am worried that he will splinter the wood and swallow it. Next time will opt for plastic.

    Hard to open and close
Hard to open and was very small

Easy to set up, perfect for dog
I got this gate because my dog and the dog we’re currently fostering haven’t been getting along, and I needed a way to separate them at times without totally shutting one in another room or crating them. This is perfect. I was worried that it’d be too hard to set up, because I vaguely remember never being able to figure these out when I babysat. But it only took a few minutes. I agree with other people that it’d be a good idea to mark the correct notch (my door was 30 inches). Careful not to force the wood lever thing or it’ll snap (this didn’t happen to me, I could just see how it could happen). This was up in a few minutes and was very sturdy. The dogs are both labs, so I was afraid they’d simply jump over it, but they didn’t! I just put one in the other room (with a clear sight-line to us), calmly locked the gate into place, said “stay here,” and walked away. The foster dog didn’t move at all.I will say that if you plan to have to cross this a lot, then I’d probably spring for the bolt-in ones that are a bit more permanent. This one would get annoying to step over all the time and/or to dismantle a lot. But if you’re looking to use it sporadically or in an out-of-the-way room, I recommend this one! And you can’t beat the price.

I have bought this THREE TIMES —and every one BROKE
I have bought this 3 times and each one has “come apart” and cannot be put back together. Also it took 3 people to attempt to unlatch the lock right out of the box.I’m shocked it hasn’t hurt a child, because it sure has hurt me and my dog—who the gate is for. He’s now terrified of it.GARBAGE is exactly where all have ended up.

Easy to install, simple, and effective
Awesome quality, especially for the price. I use this “gate” (which is actually just a fancy barricade) to block my pups from access to one of the rooms, and it suits the purpose wonderfully. The gate doesn’t have a fancy door or anything for frequent opening and closing (you pop it in the doorway and that’s it), though it’s simple enough to snap and unsnap the little lever and move it in and out the doorway. Though, I don’t do this because I’m lazy, and because fortunately the gate is short enough for me — as a 5’8″ person — to comfortably step over, yet tall enough to keep my large dogs at bay. Also, bonus for not having to mess your doorways up with hardware, screws, or holes — the rubber nobs on the outside are fairly tough but flexible and do a good job of keeping the gate from sliding. I am so, so pleased with this gate — will definitely be ordering another soon.

Not the most secure and not great for long term use but it is quick and easy to install and works for us. Luckily we are tall enough to walk over rather than reinstalling each time we need access

Do not buy, this gate is so frustrating but I’m thinking of using it for kindling. Waited too long to send it back. I’m stuck with it.Cannot get it to fit in a doorway, or a hole and stay in place. Waste of good dollars.
