Animal Friends — A Reading Rainbow of Dogs
I got the âAnimal Friends: Hello, Dogs!â book for my young nephew. I gleaned the motto of this book from a lyrical line from the Reading Rainbow song â âFriends to know, and ways to grow.â The Storey folks authored this book to help young people meet and discover how dogs can be their friends and how they can be friends to dogs.This book is a compilation of book types designed to appeal to a broad range of young children. Pages 2 and 3 is an instructional guide on how to approach dogs â as a dog owner for over 50 years I even learned important things. I believe that an adult should initially read these two pages to a child unless an older child is reading this section. And then there are the final two pages â stickers! What young child does not love stickers? [The Storey folks designed the stickers to play âBred Bingo.â What is Bred Bingo? Well, I cannot tell you all the secrets in this book!)]This book is a hardcover book, not a board book. The inner pages are slightly heavier than those in most books but very appropriate thickness for the targeted age group. The book is durable and able to withstand the wear and tear of frequent handling. I do not believe that it will be handled as much as a Dr. Seussâs book such as Green Eggs and Ham unless it ends up in an elementary school library.The âI Love Dogs Journalâ on page 50 is a powerful addition. The act of journaling is immensely helpful to help young children develop important skills such as higher order thinking and creativity.Although this book is set up to be a self-reader, I think that guided reading may be necessary at least on the first read. There are words such as energetic, therapy, and Xoloitzcuintli that some young children may need help to comprehend. Also reading a book together is great fun!Page 48 is a âdangerousâ page. This page suggests that one visits a shelter ⦠it will be hard to leave a shelter without a dog friend!Levar Burton might say the following about this five-star book: Take a look, it’s in this book, a Reading Rainbow of Dogs.The Storey folks had me with the Border Collie that they featured on the front cover â this dog reminded me of my Border Collie!BRAVO!

Cute book about dogs
This book is adorable! I have a shelf in my reading nook for the various children who visit and this is a popular one as who doesn’t like dogs? There’s a nice combination of real pictures and drawn pictures of dogs as well as games for kids to play within the book to keep them occupied. Overall a great book for the under 8 crowd (… and the over 8s who want to read about dogs as well)

cute book for dog lovers
this is a cute book for dog lovers. It says it’s for 4-8 years old, I believe it’s better suited for kids older than 5-6 years old, so that they understand the content. The book contains different stories and instructions on how to interact with dogs. It alsi contains stickers to play breed bingo (a “game” in the book), or just use them as stickers, which is what my daughter did.

A great way for young kids to understand pups and their mannerisms plus how to interact gently.
This is a very cute, well laid out book. The illustrations are lovely and there is so much interesting information for adults or children.My son adores pups which is why I ordered this. He thinks it’s a fun book and of course the stickers are a huge plus.Overall this is well made, easy to read and fun.I also find it neat that he compared/related our own pup and his characteristics with what the book talks about. Like signs he is nervous, happy or overwhelmed.I think it makes him appreciate and understand our adorable pup even more which is wonderful.

Cute Dog Book
This book is very cute. It has stickers in the back and a few games like Dog Bingo. The book pages are educational and teach about different types of dogs. The book kept our pet loving child amused for about 15 minutes as she looked through the different pages. She’s a learning to read, so she couldn’t read all the words, but enjoyed the photos and titles.

A Delightful Little Book!
This is a book that should be of interest to all dog lovers, regardless of age (although it is primarily aimed at the 4-8 year old range). It covers a lot of ground, emphasizing things like what dogs like, how to approach dogs properly, and treating dogs with compassion. There are dozens of photos of different dog breeds, and even not all breeds are represented, there are more than enough pictures and helpful text here to learn from and ponder.While this is a great book overall, there are a few things that I wish were better. For one, the dog pictures are not always the best representation of the breed. For example, if you look at the Weimaraner (see first pic), that is not the best portrait of a Weimaraner. The pics are mixed in terms of their ability to help the reader identify certain breeds.Also, there is a chart in the book of a dog’s age in human years, but it ends at 9 dog years. I would have liked to see the information go beyond 9 years to at least 15 years. Especially since the dogs I have the closest relationship to have been anywhere from 11 years to 16 years old.Overall though, it’s a delightful book and one which will cultivate both appreciation for and greater understanding of dogs, for your child, or for an adult who has an interest in dogs.

Great educational details and callouts
This book is ideal for children and adults alike. There are many interesting details called out throughout that are great for curious kids. My five-year-old nephew is obsessed with this book and wants to read through it again and again, pointing out different interesting facts about dogs. There’s even a sticker pack inside, which makes the item even more interactive. Dog-loving kids will LOVE this book!

Cute book
I thought this would be more like a picture book, but it’s really for older kids despite having tons of stickers. It has a lot of stories in there and directions on how to interact with dogs. The illustrations are cute and the stickers are fun. Interesting book to add to the collection
