    Better Than homemade
I tried to make a DIY dog door. Yeah, not a good plan. This one is great, easy to install and my Zoey loves it. It took her less than 5 minutes to figure it out.

    Great Door
I looked at a few comparing features. I chose this one because I did not want to drill permanent holes in my sliders frame for a pet door and this one is spring loaded so it is easily removed at night for safety if you wish.NOTE: About size. The weight sizing for this item is all WRONG. There is no way a 90 pound dog is going to fit through the flap of the extra large door like I ordered. Heck my Sheltie is only 24 lbs and it is a perfect fit for him. So pay attention to the flap size and if you have a truly big dog, say Lab, boxer or a bit smaller order the larger size. Really measure the dog and flap dimensions. Oh and wait……. the description said the XL door would accommodate up to a 90 lb. dog or cat. Well if a 90 lb. cat comes through that pet door………….heck it can just have the whole house, I’d be leaving………LOLOk, now back to the xl door. As I said it is perfect for my Sheltie who is 24 lbs and for my Cavalier Puppy I just got. It is perfect because my hubby figured out if your take out the frame that the flap hangs in and remove the side screws from the bottom panel, that panel will slide up and you put the frame with the flap back in and then it is prefect for the smaller dogs to go through, Before my hubby figured this out they both used the door, but they had to kinda jump to get through the opening. Now they just walk right through.I am happy with this purchase and would recommend it to others. Just keep in mind the flap size, measure the dogs (for lack of a better word) across the butt and its height at the shoulder and order the appropriate size.

You get what you pay for, and better once you get some additional items
It seems to me that everyone has forgotten the saying, “You get what you Pay for”. It seems these days we expect to get more than we pay for, and when we do not we complain.First of all, for me I did not have any issues installing the insert. I followed the instructions and had no issues. Of course my sliding door is standard. So this product worked great as it was designed for a standard sliding glass patio door.I spent an additional 20.00 at the hardware store. Got some white duct tape and 20 feet of foam rubber door stripping. The reason is, it only comes with one 10 ft strip. If your standard storm sliding glass patio door is like mine, the weather stripping runs all around the door, but not on the inside, but more on the sides of the door.Because of this, where the door meets the part of the frame were the studs lay behind there is no weather stripping. So, when I slid the insert in against the stud part of the frame it left an air gap, even though it is very, very narrow, more like 1.5 CM. It is enough to allow the winter air to come through. Also, the weather strip that comes with it to place along the side were the sliding door will now meet the insert, it was very narrow and thin to where you could see light coming through. So, I got two 10 ft strips of 1.25 in wide x 7/16 in thick and placed one strip were the insert meets the portion where it meets the frame against the stud, and the other on the door were it meets the insert. This sealed the Insert from the outside.I also got some command type lock strips, this was because my storm sliding door is 1.5 in wide and the insert is only 3/4th of an inch. The measurements in the products description is incorrect as it being 1.9 inches. Because of this it would move forward and backward, the whole insert that is. So I used the lock strips at the top of the insert to keep it from sliding. Then the Foam insulation strips I added keep the rest of it in place. After all this, the product still will not be air tight. Mainly do to the insert being only 3/4 inch thick in a storm door frame of 1.9. So, I got some white duct tape to seal off the gap at the top. Then were the to parts of the insert meet, there is a very small air gap, so I used a little of the tape to seal it.After all the additional steps, and 20 dollars it works great! It may sound complicated, but it was not. Anyone who has done any DIY door or window work will find my additional steps on weather proofing very simple.

    Great Patio Dog Door!
Gotta love this door! Great way to keep the patio door open in the winter without letting too much cold air in. Not sure how to adjust it in the summer. We placed it on the outside track so we can still lock the patio door. Our patio door was smaller so we had to cut 4” off to make it fit. 2” would have been better but it works. It’s sturdy and feels nice and snug on the track.

May not fit your sliding door!
The advert says it fits doors that are 77 5/8. Not so. Sliding doors have been manufactured since the 1960s with a lip or sill on both the floor and the top of the door frame to help keep out moisture. The smallest this door compresses is 77 5/8. If your door is 77 5/8 (many are), then this brand of product will NOT FIT because it won’t clear the lip/sill. Clearly the sign of a drunk or incompetent engineer designing this thing. So, you have to cut an inch or so off of the bottom of the door. Fun. Better have the right tools. There is a 2 inch frame around the flap, so you are going to have to diet if you want to use the remainder of the door opening for humans. Also, this thing does not seal well on the door jam side. Will not secure, so you need to buy some extra weather stripping. You are also not going to be able to lock your door. So, get ready to install every morning and remove every night. I drilled a hole in the sliding panel and ran some light cord as a loop so I can pull the sliding panel down easily; again a competent design engineer should have done this. For the money, I expected better.

expensive but so well worth it. Marley figured out how to use the door within 2 days and now uses it 100 times a day. That’s 200 less times I have to get up and open and close the patio door for her. Installation was fairly easy, although I did have to shorten it by 2 inches with a hacksaw in order for it to fit in. The door itself was a little high for Marley (37lb 15″ high Cockapoo) to get in and out at first. She had to jump a little and she’d often hit her head, thus scaring her. So with help from the manufacturer I was able to switch the space on the bottom of the door to the top of the door, effectively bringing the door down by 8″. It’s perfect now for Marley, she just walks right through.

I have 3 Golden Retrievers and landed a day job that takes me out of the house for 12 hours at a time so I had to find some way for the dogs to let themselves out in the backyard without me having to hire a dog sitter. I love this door because I can easily put it in the sliding deck door before going to work, and then take it out before going to bed. It’s not obvious from the description but the top of the door is spring-loaded and moves up and down about 2″ so you can get it into and out of the door frame. Once you’ve squeezed it into place you can turn two knobs to lock it in place, and then turn the knobs the other way to loosen it for removal. To lock the sliding door you’ll really need a door that slides on the inside track and then a stick to keep it from opening. Otherwise, if your door slides open on the outside of the frame then you will have to come up with some other mechanism to look your sliding door. Overall, this removable pet door has saved my dogs from burst bladders (or worse), and I never have to worry that they are cooped up in the house all day. It took my dumber dogs a few days to not be afraid of the plastic flap, so i had to keep it open a few days and slowly lower the door flap, but now they are total pros and love it. The only thing that is remotely less than stellar is that the door is too flexible along the vertical axis. i.e. if you (tall human) press against the middle of the door, at hip level, you will see the door bend. The dogs won’t break this door but it’s entirely possible I could.

I bought this as my wife got a new job which meant that we could potentially both be out of the house for 13 hours at a time. We have a Belgian Shepherd, similar in size to a German Shepherd though typically a bit smaller. The door fit in our patio door perfectly. The package does come with some weatherstripping, however it was not enough to seal around the door completely and I had to go to the hardware store to supplement the supplied stripping. There is also some “hidden” weather strips taped inside the box, however the adhesive on these strips wore down within a few days, despite cleaning and prepping the adhering surface. The panel fits well and the glass is nice an clear. It is not very well insulated, however it is a dog door, and was not purchased based on it’s R-Value.The dog door itself works very well. Its a thick clear vinyl flap that is securely affixed to the frame. There is a metal strip that protects the bottom of the flap, and also secures to the plastic tab on the bottom of the dog door frame with the help of embedded magnets. We quickly found that the achilles tendon to the dog door is the bottom plastic bar with the magnets. While learning how to use the flap, our dog sometimes would knock his foot against the plastic bar which resulted in it shattering completely. The bar is designed to be loose or “free floating” so that with the help of the magnets, can travel up a little and seal against the metal strip on the bottom of the flap. However, because it was just plastic when it got banged around by an excited dog, it cracked and then broke. When it broke, the flap would no longer secure itself and there was a permanent one inch gap at the bottom of the flap.Amazon was great and I got an exchange within two days. I took precautions with the replacement unit. I reinforced the magnetized plastic bar with angled aluminum attached with JB weld. Since then we have had a few months with no significant issues. It is noted that while the magnets are relatively strong, strong winds can still knock the flap open on occasion. There is also not a perfect seal around the sides of the flap that are not secured with magnets.I got the product from Amazon.ca and as always their customer service was amazing. However I do feel that at the time that I purchased the product, September 2016, the price (more that three hundred Canadian monies), was a bit excessive for what the product is.My dog loves it.

The description of XLarge door flap is not even close to accurate. My Alaskan malamute could barely get his head through never mind his shoulders. It looked more like it was for a medium sized dog like a lab or border collie. I was extremely disappointed

This door is built solidly and feels far more secure than others. It’s engineered to fit into door openings securely. It also has adjustable inside security locks for the sliding top. Unfortunately it did not fit my odd sized door and I had to return it, their customer support people were eager to please and they have a no hassle return policy. I ended up buying another brand that did fit, but it really pales in comparison in construction and fit.
