Cost Effective Option for Traveling With Dogs Who Are Comfortable and Peaceful
Traveling with dogs is always stressful, for them and us. Since my mom passed, we’re traveling back and forth to her home 5 hours away every month to 6 weeks. Fitting a senior co pilot pup and rambunctious 2 yr old back seat driver pup comfortably has been a challenge. These were for a 5th Gen 4Runner (pardon the dog hair in the pics, have not vacuumed since last trip).Unboxing and packing:Straight out of the shipping box, I felt these seemed too heavy to be helpful. I worried that once loaded it would need wheeled to the car on a dolly. But that I misjudged. Took me a second to realize one partition is for the floor of the box while the other goes in the middle. Once completed, I began to load and was pleased to see one could fit both dogs food/bowls, doggy bags, and medicines along with a few blanket and towel with ease. There is room to add some of my own dog safe items as well as the outside pocket for car hair remover tools and quick access collapsible dog bowl doggy bags. Once the lid is in place, this thing is solid.Fitment:I had to move both seats up to fit in the rear seat foot wells, but they fit very nicely once in place, and you can still access if needed. I then put an inexpensive dog bed designated for car trips (which should keep it less hairy), on top to make the space more full and comfortable. No more pup sliding forward into the floor when braking hard. (yes i do buckle them both in on road trips, but sometimes it happens). We have not used these yet but I have a feeling this will ease all pups worries and provide more comfort. This did fit in front height wise, but moving the seat back to fit width wise didn’t change that the longest side is butt up against the door.In use:Backseat pup could sprawl out over these. He fell asleep straight away both directions of travel. Used one in the front and one in the rear. Co pilot pup still sank backward b/c the seat ended up being lower that the footwell. For this to work for her, we need to prop up the area she actually sits to be firm enough to allow her to lay flat.Best Aspect:While these were a little bit heavy once loaded with doggy gear/food, they were manageable for a 60yo lady. When you arrive at your destination, these neatly store all the dog gear in one place so there is no need to unpack and repack. They have been about the best addition to road trips with dogs since the seat covers. I 100% rx these.
