If your dog could choose a book for you to read it would surely be this one. Behaviorist, Shay Kelly shows you how to become your dog’s best friend by providing simple, fun activities to spark their mind and enrich their life. A lack of mental stimulation is a leading contributory factor in dog behavioural problems. Ensuring that our dog’s needs are met is the first step in avoiding and rectifying problematic behaviour. Shay’s practical approach and behaviour knowledge combine in this critically acclaimed book, to deliver practical, kind, and scientific advice. ~ What Dr Susan Friedman says about the book: I am so happy to have Shay Kelly’s book, “Canine Enrichment” to recommend to all animal caregivers. As I often say, animals are built to behave, not to be still; and, arranging the environment to facilitate meaningful behavior, that is, behavior that leads to strong positive reinforcers, is as necessary to behavioral well being as healthy food is to physical health. With this book, Mr. Kelly gives practical examples and ignites the imagination to result in endless possibilities to improve the lives of the learners in our care.~What Sara Sokol says about the book: Canine Enrichment: the book your dog needs you to read” is essential reading for any dog guardian who wants to provide their dog with the most satisfying, fun, and fulfilled life possible. Mr Kelly inspires and motivates the reader while educating them on the importance of providing enrichment to their canine companions. The result is a dog/human team who is physically, mentally, and emotionally fulfilled and behaviorally at their best. As a dog trainer and behavior specialist, I am thrilled to have this book as a reference for my clients and provide a copy to all of my new clients.

The best book you can buy for your dog!
Our behaviorist recommended this book to us, and it is by far the best book I’ve ever bought for my dog. It provides you with so many ideas on how to provide your fur friend with enrichment. I recommend this book to every pet owner I know and recommend it to strangers when we’re on walks and start talking about our dogs. A few of my favorite recommendations in the book include Snuffles, Sniffari’s, scatter feeding, toilet paper/paper towel tubes, and scent gardens.

    Good ideas.
This book came so highly recommended to me that I expected more than it could deliver. However, I got some great ideas from the book. Ed try to keep.our dog busy, but I have to say that some ideas would be WAY more consuming of MY time than I am willing to invest and I think that some readers will agree. Quick read. Worth the price.

    Full of useful info
Every dog owner should read this! It has a lot of helpful information about dogs and ways to provide enrichment activities. I appreciate that a lot of the suggested activities are low/no cost

Great book but the copy I got was definitely not new
The book content is great. But the copy I got had dog ears (hahah), and in some places looked like maybe a dog had chewed on it. There were also multiple pages that had been dog-eared really hard. I am returning the book. I can get the second edition in new condition. The description should have stated it was used, and that it was the old edition.

    Not for me
Was recommended by a trainer and likely for many people it contains many revelations and great ideas. However I have had rescue dogs for 30+ years and there wasn’t really anything new in here. It was, however, very well written and will probably be very helpful to folks with less experience, or perhaps problem dogs.

    Great Book!
I loved this book. It’s a good reminder to dog parents to let our dog be a dog. The book is full of ideas on how to have fun together while still letting your dog use their natural instincts. Some games can be played at home using items all households have. Others are super simple that involve nature and outdoors. The book explains WHY enrichment is needed… Highly recommend.

Chock full of great ideas and good information!
This book was a great purchase for a new puppy owner! It contains lots of ideas about ways to enrich your dog’s life through toys, puzzles and activities. Additionally, it explains why enrichment is important and how it helps to decrease behavioral issues and promote the health and emotional well being of your pet. It is a super resource for a minimal cost and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to find ways to enrich their pet’s life!

Was told by a trainer to use enrichment games to help my dog. Saw Saay kelly book whilst looking at enrichment books. So glad I chose his. Well written and easy to read and understand. Have taken the games and advice from the book on board and it’s paying off. The dog loves doing the activities which is helping with his behaviour. Would recommend this book to anyone with a dog you don’t have to have behaviour problems the ideas are a lovely way to entertain your dog. Have now bought his book on dog training and behaviour not finished it yet but very informative. Also ordered Shay’s Enrichment 2nd addition.

De uma forma bem descontraída e acessível, o autor nos faz refletir sobre nossa relação com nossos cães e como podemos trazer atividades simples para melhorarmos suas vidas. Todo mundo que tem ou convive com um cão deveria ler.

A wonderfully written, easy to understand manual for all dog owners on the importance of mental stimulation, nose work, and confidence building exercises. Most importantly it explains how to enhance and enrich your dog’s overall quality of life. I adopted an adult rescue dog with reactive/anxiety issues about 6 yrs ago. And then my dog went acutely blind from SARDS in May 2019. I found the Canine Enrichment site on Facebook and so wish I had found it sooner. So many great ideas and concepts for visual and non-visual dogs alike (even though not specifically geared towards blind dogs.) You don’t need to buy expensive toys for your dog…most toys or activities can be constructed from items that you already have around your house. It also stresses the importance of letting your dog do doggy things, the value of letting a dog make his own choices and enjoy just being a dog. It should be the how-to manual that comes with every dog. I have worked as a Registered Veterinary Technician for over 22 years. I have already recommended it to my fellow RVT’s and will recommend it to my clients. If you love your dog and want him to have the best dog life possible, take the time to read this book and be inspired. Your dog will thank you!

As a trainer, would love to recommend this to all my clients who are confused about why their dogs are “bad dogs” despite two whole walks a day. There’s so much more we can & need to do for our canine friends and Shay explains it best.If you’ve been following his blog & FB page (as I religiously have), there’s a lot of this info readily available to you from him in just as engaging articles & discussions. But if you do not where to start – this book is perfect.Would have loved some more pictures to some of the games you talk about, especially from the perspective of someone hearing about this stuff for the first time. But bottom line – your dog will thank you for listening to Shay! ! ! Changed my life & my dogs for sure.
