Very Durable and life changing!
Update 07/08/2020:Can you believe this bed is still holding strong?? After Logan died, and our kitties, I gave the bed to my daughter whose 110lb Maremma mix loves it. The bed stays out on their deck subject to the weather and salt water/air and performs great. I didnât want to take it back so when we welcomed a new golden retriever into our home I purchased another! Sheâs a big girl herself but it holds her quite well. Iâm really pleased with the durability of this bedUpdate 05/23/2017:This bed is still going strong! Our cats sleep on it now that dear Logan departed this world in late December – about a month before his 15th birthday. Looking forward to using it when/if we get more dogs.Original Review:I purchased this for our super-sensitive, slightly misshapen, senior 110 lb Lab Newfoundland mix. His spindly legs support a large, oddly shaped body (ie a ham on toothpicks, if you will) which causes him to be unbalanced and clumsy. Admittedly, I was a little worried that he wouldn’t step on it.He’s also a bit of a recluse who spends most of his time sleeping in a bathroom with the lights off and seems ambivalent toward the outdoors. I bought this bed in hopes of encouraging him to spend a bit more time outside with us. He doesn’t do fetch or anything like that, so providing him a comfortable outdoor relaxation station seemed like the way to go. I’m happy to say this bed did the trick! He accompanies us outside much more often and seems very happy. I’ve even discovered him outside by himself in the middle of the night, resting on his bed, gazing up at the stars, fur glistening in the moonlight. I wonder what he’s thinking (?)The Large “hammock” has just the right amount of “give” in the material to support and suspend his large frame while still leaving enough space between the fabric and ground to house a small cat. We keep it outdoors on our deck in all sorts of weather, although once winter arrives we move it to a sunroom. I like that it doesn’t skid around on the deck while he steps on to it – it’s very secure. The material is awesome in that a simple hosing off (preferably after Logan has exited the bed) keeps it clean and fresh. The only other maintenance it has required is a tightening of the screws every few months. I should mention we’ve had this bed 4 years. It’s durability over this time is what prompted me to write this review. I can’t tell you how many other dog beds we had gone through before we settled on this one. I’m very impressed and can strongly recommend it.

Durable, Easy to Assemble & Keep Clean
I didn’t rely on any suggestions about how many pounds a dog weighs. Just like with a crate, I measured my dog’s height and length (18″H x 25″L) and looked for a bed that gave him an additional 12 inches both ways. The Product Features section provides this measurement, so forget about how much your dog weighs – it isn’t relevant. Measure how much space he needs to stretch out comfortably on his side for a snooze.I live at 9,100 feet in CO and we get small amounts (2-6″) of powdery snow fairly often through the winter. I had intended to keep this outdoors under my Sheltie’s favorite tree during the non-snow months, but because he’s a Sheltie he lays out in the snow throughout the winter so I’ve left it out to see how it holds up.We just finished up a 4-day sub-zero freeze (25 to 30F below zero), and the webbing on the bed stayed UN-frozen. I’m sure it was a relief to the Sheltie during his habitual afternoon outdoor trips when he lays at the top of our property (with a 45-degree slope down to the road) and surveys his kingdom. I even found him laying on top of 2″ of snow that had accumulated on the bed on the last day of the bitter freeze – guess 2″ of snow on top of a non-frozen bed was better than the bitterly frozen ground. Though personally I prefer staying inside when it’s 25 below zero outside! But the Coolaroo webbed & elevated surface allowed the Sheltie to maintain his afternoon routine even during such harsh weather conditions. The bed is easy to keep clean with a broom or whisk-broom: In summer months I sweep off the small amount of dirt that didn’t sift through the webbing, as well as gravel and pine needles; in winter months I sweep off the snow. And unlike every other thing around and attached to our home, the dog bed did not collect any frost or ice this past week when temps dropped to -30F. The webbing stayed comfortable to the touch, even where it wrapped around the steel frame. The bed has been out in the dogs’ side yard (to which they have access through a dog door) for 9 months now and shows absolutely no sign of wear/tear/rust. It still looks like it just came out of the box. I did use a 3-pound sledge and crow-bar (and a little water) to pound out some 2″-deep holes in the soil for the legs, then hammered the legs into the ground (protecting the frame by laying a 2×4 piece of wood across it before I began pounding). This keeps it stable on uneven ground — a factor that increased the Sheltie’s willingness to lay on it. When I first put it out, it rocked and scooted a bit when he got on or off it, and he wasn’t willing to use it. Guess the idea of sledding down the 45-degree slope didn’t appeal to him. 🙂 On a level concrete surface this obviously wouldn’t be a problem. One suggestion about assembly — follow the instructions provided in the review by GGecko “UhrTeufel”. I read the enclosed assembly instructions, but printing out this reviewer’s tips to use during assembly allowed me to put the bed together correctly the first try without any problems.

I got it for our 10 month old Newfie as he is finding the warm weather rather rough at the minute. He took to the bed instantly and lay there for a few hours. Checking in on him, I put my hand underneath him and true to the other reviews, his tummy was nice and cool with the air circulation. The bed was easy enough to put together, a little bit of brute strength was needed to get the last leg on the bar as the material gets quite tight (it explains this in the instructions, so it’s normal). The material seems quite strong but I can’t imagine it would take an awful lot of pawing to tear it. The bed is also really light in weight, so I was a little dubious of whether it would actually hold our monster or not. When I was putting it together I noticed that the manual said ‘for large and extra large beds’. Upon researching, after I put the bed up, I found the extra large bed on another site for just a little bit more money. What the description doesn’t tell you is that the large bed only suits dogs up to 40KG, whereas the extra large suits to 70KG. At the minute, Riley is 54KG and the bed seems to hold his weight well but we’ll definitely be upgrading to the larger bed to give him a more comfortable rest. Just to support the photo, our Newf is quite lean so he’s not filling out the bed because he’s over weight..it’s just a small bed.

It’s quite durable with our 65 pound (30 kg) german shepherd pawing at it almost daily. The frame can twist a bit if you’re moving the bed but it’s rock solid if it’s on the ground.

My Dane was suffering in the hot weather. He sweat so much the floor under his old bed was damp and smelly it was awful! I’d looked at raised beds before but wasn’t sure if they’d be large enough for him (he’s a big boy and likes to stretch). anyway, the situation was desperate so I hit the bet and discovered this bed on sale and took the chance that he would fit. I am so glad I did! There is ample room for him to lie and wriggle in and out of his various contortions and there have been occasions when the two terriers climb on there too with no discomfort. He is cool and so comfy, it’s hard to get him off there. Easy to assemble, unobtrusive and reduces ‘dog pong’ when they’ve been laying down for a while! Worth every penny, I can’t recommend it enough!
