    Love this book!
I really enjoyed the author’s insight and tips on training a fearful dog. Her first hand experience with a puppy farm escapee made the book even more enjoyable. Thank you for sharing your journey, Sally!

great read for anyone rescuing a puppy mill dog.
I wish I had this book on day #1 of rescuing my puppy mill mom. This would help so many people realize that you need to start out with slow quiet patience. These dogs know nothing about real world, what grass is, how to walk or use stairs, bowls, leashes anything we normally associate a dog with. I don’t think people realize what actually happens to these poor dogs & how hard it is to overcome fear in a new world. One day at a time is a good phrase but it is truth to these broken souls, but the reward is above any imagined.

    Enjoyable Read
Was an enjoyable read, just looking for something with more detailed information. Great to have something like this for newcomers to rescue of dogs with baggage.

Support for rescuers of abused dogs
This book offers encouragement for the difficult task of rescuing an abused dog. The pace of change can be so slow and cause us to doubt that we are helping, but this book validates my experience so far that allowing the dog to emerge at its own pace by respecting its cues, it the proper way to go. I also really liked her practical suggestions. Wish I had known to “move like a sloth” from the beginning. I really scared my dog a few times by walking by her too quickly when she wasn’t expecting me. Her suggestions to use confidence building activities even before your dog is comfortable with humans is one I’m going to start immediately. I will definitely return to this book for confidence building of my own and Skye and I embark on this journey together

    Great book, very informative!
I had no idea what to expect with our rescue dog Ruby, a 5yr old Shih Tzu. We have only had her a month and she has made some noticeable progress but there is still much to be made. Thank you Sally, your book has given us renewed hope for our precious little girl, I highly recommend this book to anyone rescuing a puppy farm dog!

Life with a puppy farm escapee
This book was so enlightening. We just got our own escapee and had no idea how to meet her needs. Gradually, with the suggestions in the book, l believe we are looking at better days.Because of the pandemic we aren’t having visitors and this will help us to put the authors suggestions into practice. We are retired and initially thought that getting our girl was a big mistake, however, the book has given us hope. Thank you.

Great book for those who are caring for a rescued dog and may need some support and empathy. I found many parallels in the story with my own dog and also plenty of practical advice on caring and understanding these special dogs with a kind approach to help them live the best lives they can.

  11. LARA

The book is full of wonderful information, I certainly found it inspirational. I loved reading how Sally let Holly make her own choices, which boosted Holly’s confidence. The Healthcare chapter was also excellent. Overall, a fantastic read.

  12. Bigspender

This is brilliant guide for anyone either thinking of or someone, who has just adopted an ex-puppy farm dog. The information, though scientifically based is easy to understand and the paragraphs are in ‘bite-size’ pieces, making it easy to find the information you may be looking for.. I bought the book in April 2019 & although I read it immediately, I refer to it constantly if I have any concerns about my little dogs.I have had my first little 3year old ex-breeding bitch for almost a year & she was lucky enough to have lived for a while with an incredible foster family. My second little dog was not so lucky, She was thankfully rescued by Many Tears Animalshelter, but I adopted her directly from there, so she came to me with numerous issues caused by the puppy farm. Sally’s book has guided me through the mine field of issues the little dog came with. I Highly recommend it.

Really sets you up with all the base knowledge needed when considering bringing a puppy farm rescue into your life. Covers so many aspects, some of which I would never have considered. You can tell Sally has a gentle kind manner and wants nothing but the best for our canine friends.
