Go beyond kibble—and put your dog on a healthier diet with recipes for Fido’s Fishcakes, Bacon and Cream Cheese Muffins, and more!
Home Cooking for Your Dog is the first holistic cookbook for dogs to include recipes for cooked meals, treats, and the raw food diet. User-friendly, chop-licking recipes like Fido’s Fishcakes, Potluck Polenta, and Peanut Butter and Coconut Cakes call for healthy ingredients you can find in your local grocery store (or may already have at home) to create balanced, nutritious meals for a healthier, happier dog.
Included are nutrition information, cooking tips, and anecdotes from the author about her own four dogs to help you transition your dog to a homemade diet. Illustrated with a combination of irresistible color photographs of dogs and humorous line art, the book is a must-have for dog owners everywhere—and a portion of the proceeds will support animal rescue.

Your dog will thank you!
This book is very well laid out for ease of trying new recipes for your dogs. It makes it user friendly for anyone that already cooks for their pack and also those interested that haven’t tried it yet. We’ve been cooking for them for years and it’s always been a challenge to find proper recipes to follow. I like to know there’s good knowledge and expertise behind the recommendations. Your dogs will love you even more!

Super well written and designed
Love this book!!! It not only has recipes for fun dog meals, it has comprehensive nutrition and serving size per weight of dogs. There is a solid page on not what to feed Fido. Lol heartwarming stories throughout with images of happy, healthy dogs. It can even make a great coffee table addition!

It is set up in a sensible format and easy to follow
This cookbook is for someone who really wants to cook for their dog(s). It is set up in a sensible format and easy to follow. My dogs love all of the recipes I’ve tried so far. My issue with this cookbook is that I have four dogs with different needs/ages/weights that I need to feed. The author bases her recipes on an average of a 50 lb dog, as in one ‘recipe’ is set up for 4-50lb dogs, and then there is a single serving recipe below as well. So one recipe does not cover my 90 lb Labrador, my 72 lb Shepard mix, my 56 lb Pit bull mix and my 35 lb Border Collie. I have to adjust the amount I cook and serve for each dog. I’m cooking about a recipe and a half each meal. The author does list serving amounts per weight in the book, as well as how much protein, vegetables, etc to give. If I only had one dog to feed, this would be more do able for me. The author does also state what NOT to give your dog, how to add calcium using eggshells, supplements to give etc. There is a ton of helpful information here, my dogs are not complaining, but long term this is not practical for me.

Excellent for someone new to home cooking dog food
I was going crazy trying to find a kibble that my new puppy (Australian Labradoodle) liked and didnt give him liquid stool. I went through about 4 different brands including a prescription kibble from our vet none of which provided any improvement. I then considered a fresh delivery service but that was out of my budget and started looking into preparing the food myself. I was quickly overwhelmed with all of the stuff I was reading online and decided to give this book a try. I am glad I did! Aside from being easy to follow, it broke everything down in a way that just made sense. After reading, I felt that I had a solid understanding of how to plan and make healthy and nutritious meals for my pup. With the help of this book I have finally gained the courage to give the home cooked meals a try and I am happy to say that I saw the results immediately. My puppy has been on home cooked meals for about a week as of today and within the first 2 days his stool was what it should be (and about a third of what it was when he was on kibble), he doesnt scratch like he used to and he loves meal time. In my first batch, I made about 2 weeks worth of food. In my next batch, I will be making a month’s worth.Note: The recipes in the book are for a 50lb adult dog but there are guidelines for modifying based on your dog’s weight. I did have some questions about what if any adjustments I needed to make for a puppy and reached out to the author through her website. She was more than willing to help answer my questions and offer advice. I have learned so much over the past couple of weeks and strongly encourage everyone who has a pet to consider home cooked meals. Whether you use this book or any other, don’t get discouraged because you think it will be too complicated or time consuming. (Anyone can spare one day a month to ensure their pet is getting a nutritious diet without all the fillers and side effects of commercially made food) It is not as complicated as the internet makes it seem. On a side note, I have also come to learn through my own digging that most of what is posted online that looks like news articles or blogs trying to scare you with how difficult it is to “balance” a dogs nutrition are written by big brand kibble companies. Stick to the guidelines and basic principles and always remember that even a less than perfect meal that you make at home with healthy ingredients is a million times better than the sewage they put in kibble and canned food.Thank you for taking the time to write this book and giving new pet owners like me the confidence and knowledge to keep our pets happy and healthy with home cooked food!

Great resource
I do much of my pups cooking due to food intolerances & allergies. I love the steps she takes for ensuring proper portions & nutrients are encorporated as well as charts and logic to help guide rather than just recipes.

and lots of good ideas, and some easy some more complex recipes
Very well explained, and lots of good ideas, and some easy some more complex recipes. But frankly, unless you’re retired or a stay at home mom, you simply won’t find the time to plan all these meals for your dog. You have to change up his meals all the time as this book recommends. I thought I could make a large batch and freeze a few but that’s not how this plan works. Really wish I could have stuck to it since my dogs were so happy and had such pretty fur with it but bottom line, you have to expect taking 4-5 hours a week of meal prepping and cooking for your dog, its a lot when you work full time with kids at home. Also, keep in mind its much more expensive than dry food.

Great cookbook with easy recipes!
I had been wanting to make my dogs food for a while now, but recipes I found online scared me away from it. They were all so complicated! I also read that if your homemade food doesn’t have the proper nutrition a dog needs then it can be one of the worst things you can feed your dog. Between those two things I decided to stick with the kibble for a while. Then I stumbled on this cookbook. Hallelujah! The beginning of the book is full of great information like foods that are good/bad for dogs, how much to feed them, what supplements to put in the food to make sure you are meeting their nutritional needs, etc. Then the book is divided into cooked recipes, raw recipes, and snacks and the recipes are EASY. Some require some ingredients that you may not usually keep on hand (like quinoa pasta or chicken liver), but making a list beforehand is helpful with that. Most are about 4-6 ingredients total I would say. Now, after cooking my dog REAL food, I can’t imagine going back to that disgusting kibble. Ew. Imagine eating hard, dry pellets everyday for your whole life and then eating beef stew… Could you imagine how good that would taste?? I will never make my dog eat that crap again.

Bought this for my friends birthday as she loves to spoil her dog. I flipped through it before wrapping it and was pleasantly surprised to see its more than recipes. It also talks about how much food to give dogs based on breed, age and weight, and also what human foods are safe for them and the benefits they give to the dog. She loved it!
