surprisingly high quality
I was immediately surpriseed by the quality of and heavy duty construction of this dog door in comparison to my existing single pane uninsulated Petsafe door (which i have had for 25 yrs). Here are pros: 1. Very quality materials and manufacturing. 2. excellent insulating. 3.Easy to insall. Here are the Cons: 1. The door comes as 2 parts which are joined by inserting 2 metal connectors that have predrilled set screw holes. What the instructions didnt say, but i recommend, is to stand the 2 pieces up on edge ON A LEVEL FLOOR as you install the set screws. otherwise the wont be square or air tight (as i found out). 2. They provided insulation for 1 side and they anticipated the other side would abut the existing sliding dr weather stripping (which it did, but no insulation stripes were provided for the top, bottom or middle where the 2 pieces join. Minor issues since i already had some on hand.

Perfect addition for my dogs
Fits perfect in our back door! If you have dogs, this is a MUST! Took a little time to install and didn’t use the “seal” correctly to keep the cold air out but works great!

Game Changer
Our senior dog has bladder cancer needing to go out quite a bit and this saves us from having to let her out, especially at night we don’t have to get up she just comes and goes. Of course initially there is some slight training involved w/treats to learn the door. The overall door is quality made and worth the price for the double pane glass needed for the winter months. There will most likely be some alterations needed since every slider door frame is different. I had to cut off part of the bottom plate w/a reciprocal saw then install a piece of wood beveled out in the middle to accommodate my door track groove. I’m sure if you don’t want to go to this extent you could get some thick foam insulation strips that had adhesive on one side. I installed 2 vertical runs of foam insulating v-seal in between where the slider and panel, then added a 2″ rubber strip between slider glass and slider frame gap to seal from door being partially open. Somewhat of a design flaw that others have noticed is the door flap does not always seat itself properly leaving a large gap on the bottom allowing air to just flow in. There are 2 magnets on the bottom that are supposed to freely slide up and down to catch the door as it swings open and close however if the gap is too big the bottom magnets do not attach to door panel. Also, the door will swing open freely during heavy winds bc it.is not properly attached to the bottom defeating the purpose of a winterized door. Either they need to design this flap with stronger magnets or less of a gap. I had to raise the magnets about 1/2″ higher then added duct tape to hold in place while still allowing for the magnets to have some slight movement. The locking bar that comes with it is also sturdy. Despite needing to figure out some issues, I’ve made the deal tightly sealed and operable w/the need to occasionally manually clasp the doggy door itself if the flap is misaligned, other than that it saves us from constantly having to get up to let the dogs out. Aesthetically, it looks like it is part of my slider which is also nice, doesn’t look cheap.

Much better than single pane.
Really nice and well built. It was 1 1/2 inches too tall for my sliding door but I was able to cut it down to size and get it too fit. I recommend buy your own Minimal Compression Weatherstrip tape. This item is a LOT better than your standard single pane glass inserts. Really makes a big difference in keeping out the cold.

Very cheap, not air tight
I have had this door installed for 1 day and it is getting returned. The flap sits more than 1/4″ above where it should connect with the bottom door frame. Please see the 1st Pic of the light that can be seen between the flap and the door frame. We were in a major retailer today and they had a display of this manufacturer’s line and we saw a non-insulated version that had adjustable sliding screws that would fix this problem but our model doesn’t have that feature. We were also very disappointed in the overall lack of quality in this door. Minimal craftsmanship and doesnt look like it will hold up to the test of time.Last but not least, about half the times my dogs go out, the flap stays partially open (see other pics) – sometimes about an inch away from sealing. I live in Michigan and cannot have the equivalent of a hole in my house going into the winter. I purchased this because it was significantly less than a competitor’s model but I am going to swallow hard and buy up. Hope it’s worth it!

Weathertightness – lacking
I am fairly ‘handy’ and hoped that by spending a bit more for the more weather resilient model, it would be worth it. However, there are three things that negate the double layer dog door hatch. 1. the black tape intended to seal the ‘back’ of the now open door, does not adhere and does not stay in place, letting air freely flow through the 1″ gap. 2. The weatherstripping provided does not seal or address the three sides of the door assembly as it touches the existing door jabd, head and threshold 3. the way the two sections connect (also without sealant to prevent air movement) create a ‘bend’ or non plumb condition at the middle of the door, which then translates into a gap where the moving door leaf should seal to the new dog door asssembly.

I purchased this for my balcony door to see if my dogs would actually use it before I committed to cutting a hole in my ground level exterior wall. The door was easy to install but I did use extra weather stripping to help insulate against drafts. The door itself is 3 layers and stiff but even sealed at -20°c. The quality is great.

Quite pleased with this all weather dog door. Does still let a fair bit old cold in however but might add another door flap. Was pleased to see they included a door flap for the back of the slider to stop air from blowing in between.Do have a small concern about the flaps not always closing fully as shown in pics. Every now and then one edge seems to not seal when the pup comes in. Overall happy with it though and nice that it can be moved to another patio door if needed. Much better than cutting a hole in the wall. Exchanges that type for this one. Pricey but hopefully worth it.

In theory, this pet door is awesome. I had a PerSafe dog door at my last house and my dog loved it so I thought I would put in another at my new place. This time I needed one for a sliding door. It was easy to put together but I didnât realize since the sliding door is on a âmonorailâ track, this dog door wonât sit properly on the track without an adapter piece or cutting notches in the bottom of the panel. Aside from that, itâs great.

Never expected it to be as good as it is. Of course itâs not 100% air tight and letâs in small draft if cold enough, but our dog can be home while we are at work and have access to the backyard 100% of the time. Itâs worth the extra few dollars in heating costs a month for that peace of mind. Live in Canada and weather gets cold, very cold at times but still works extremely well.

I bought it for my house to install with sliding doors. Great product. My dog loves going in and out. May want to buy some more insulation tape as not enough is provided or at least for my liking as it gets cold in winters. I think my sliding door may not be standard size because the space that is left for me to get out is very small. The security bar is ok but it is plastic and fairly easy to crack.Pretty sure my dog has a bigger opening than me! I make it work, still a great product.
