Easy to install, great for small dogs
I ordered this gate because I needed a solution for my 13 1/2 year old Boston Terrier who suffers from epileptic seizures. Her seizures are controlled with medication but there is always a chance of a breakthrough seizure. I don’t crate her when I leave the house but I wanted a way to keep her from the stairs for her safety. This gate is perfect because it is easily retractable and out of the way when I don’t need it, but quickly in place when I do. The tension on the gate is strong so it doesn’t look flimsy when in place.I was able to install the gate within 10 minutes with my power drill. The directions are extremely detailed with photos and in English. The gate comes with the necessary hardware to mount the gate into drywall and into concrete or cinder block walls. The directions suggest to mount into a stud or use the provided drywall anchors. As I previously mentioned, the gate has pretty strong tension so I would try to mount into a stud or use the anchors provided. You are able to “LOCK” the gate into place which releases the tension, but pulling it into place still puts some stress onto the end that mounts to the wall. The reason I mentioned it was perfect for a small dog is because of the height of the gate. It is approx. 15″ high, so if you have a dog that can jump and clear 15″ then maybe one of their other height options is better suited for you. I am extremely pleased with this gate and I have no doubt it will serve it purpose for many years.

Great replacement for the top of the stairs
We had a wooden gate at the top of our basement stairs, just to keep the dogs from going down there. It was clunky and kind of a pain to open and shut. Since this gate is at the top of the stairs, it doesn’t need to be as tall, since the dogs aren’t going to jump over it. I installed this fairly low gate across the opening (I did leave a couple inch gap at the bottom). We’ve got a coat rack on the wall there, so it gives us easier access to the coat hooks and is totally adequate to keep the dogs from going down the stairs.Installation was easy, although the wood screws provided were way longer than I needed (so I used some shorter ones). The gate opens/closes smoothly and is easy to “latch” closed by hooking the end on the two hooks attached to the wall. Since it’s fabric, it is totally able to be angled across the opening we have, rather than having to be straight across (we’ve got a small shoe cabinet that’s kind of in the way on one end). You can either step over this gate or easily open it to gain access to the stairs, and it just looks so much nicer than the wooden gate did. I will look into getting another one of these is a taller size to use as another pet barrier.
