New Strategies and Plans for Separation Anxiety

It has now been six years since the release of Malena DeMartini-Price’s best selling first book, Treating Separation Anxiety in Dogs. Not one to rest on her laurels, Malena has been busy teaching and mentoring dog trainers worldwide to become Certified Separation Anxiety Trainers (CSAT). Working in collaboration with a large network of trainers to collect data and conduct research, new strategies have been developed on many of the key elements of treating separation anxiety. Now, in a completely new book, Malena share these strategies for the use of current technologies, no absence management, and improved desensitization techniques. Any trainer or guardian dealing with separation anxiety will find this book a valued resource.

Finally, this helped my dogs separation anxiety after trying EVERYTHING else!
We adopted our rescue pup Parker 9 months ago and quickly realised he had separation anxiety (he displayed severe vocalisation when we left him alone). I was on a mission to help him, I read everything on the internet, read numerous books on the topic and spent hundreds of dollars on natural remedies that I prayed would help. Sadly, everything I tried did very little to ease Parker’s anxiety, including an SSRI medication prescribed by the vet. We had given up “doing it on our own” and had Parker scheduled to visit the veterinary behaviourst (on a 3 month waiting list) which was going to cost us thousands (money we couldn’t afford). It was then that I came across Malena’s book. Finally, something I read on SA actually made sense, didn’t contain conflicting information and went into the level of detail we needed to answer my many questions. It is clear that Malena has years of experience in this field. She is able to make sense of the conflicting and often false information out there. Also, if you have a dog with SA you will know how isolating and helpless it can make you feel. Malena’s book gave me hope that there was a solution by providing detailed examples of her client’s experiences over the years and by encouraging you to celebrate every small “win” you and your dog accomplish. Yes, this book is aimed at dog trainers and it does go into a lot of detail, but if you have a dog with SA like me and you have already scoured every other possible resource to help, you are likely already a bit of an expert in the topic!Within two months of following Malena’s protocol and different medication, Parker is now able to be left alone for over four hours and he sleeps the entire time! I couldn’t be more grateful for this resource, thank you Malena for writing such an informative book! If you have a dog with SA do not hesitate to buy this book, it might just change yours and your pups lives 🙂

    There is hope
I’ve been working with my CSAT, Beverly for several months now. One day while browsing the resources section of our Sheets document I saw this book mentioned and decided to read it. I am so glad I did. I now have a much better understanding of the process Beverly is using, and feel I can be more helpful in the training process because of the information I’ve gotten from the book.I KNOW now that Enzo will one day be quite OK laying on his rug waiting for me to come home. What a wonderful gift that will be to he and I. And now I know it’s possible.

    Separation Anxiety Tool
This book has given us ways to attack our dog’s Separation Anxiety. It will help us decide what options we have to help Monty become a calmer dog when we have to leave the house. Malena has shown us that there is hope!

    Pet training
The booklet is geared for professional trainers. If you have lots of time to help your pet, then, this booklet is for you. Amateurs can pass this booklet on to professional for a X-Mas Present or Birthday Present.

    Excellent for trainers & owners
I got this as an ebook and liked it so much I bought a hard copy to give to a friend.

    Does not teach technique
This book is great for understanding the fundamentals of treating separation anxiety. But. There is no training plan or explanation of the method to use. There are anecdotes of dogs and clients. There is good discussion of the medication that can be used. Do not buy this book if you think you will learn step by step on how to work on separation anxiety for your dog.She is very knowledgeable and you will learn a great deal of background info. Now help me implement it!

The book is on the way however I have taken the author’s Anxiety online course and this is written by her so I know it will be amazing. I have no doubt. It’s also highly recommended by many other dog trainers. So the book is a nice complimentary to the course I took by Melana. Highly recommend.

Love it, debunks a lot of the (well-meaning) myths about separation anxiety training. It’s working for my dog!

Well written, evidence based mainly for the professional
