Following installation instructions makes for a great gate and great experience – sturdy and safe
I had no problem installing this gate nor did I experience the “faulty gap” issues so many have where the gate would latch to the supports. Its actually supposed to come like that and warns you this does not make the gate faulty but is necessary for proper insulation and when gate is properly installed the gap disappears. We needed a gate that would spam 56 inches to keep a large new puppy out of the hallway where the kids rooms were to stop him from carrying off their toys as his. We ordered the gate and fitted it in place picking the extensions need to fit the 56″ span. Once we knew where the pressure rings would go we used the drywall installation instructions to mount the holders in the wall for extra sturdiness. I think we could have simply used the adhesive attachments but puppy will grow to over 100 pounds so we wanted the extra hold (hopefully before then he will learn what toys are his and that he cannot help himself to others toys). This is where its important to note: until your gate is fully installed and you tighten it in for the final installation you will have a gap where the door would normally latch and the door appears off center. Once fully installed and mounted properly and tightened into place you will see, as you tighten the gate at the wall, the gap slowly goes away and door then is on center, and teh latch will work correctly. Every gate will come with that gab, which allows for the correct pressure installation, so seeing a gab and sending the gate back for a replacement is going to get you a gate with the same gap. This gate, installed as directed, is the sturdiest gate I have ever purchased, especially one that has to span such a width. Its also well made and looks very nice with the wood and metal, can actually look more like furniture than a barrier. I definitely would recommend this as a gate that would be safely used at the top of the stairs to prevent falls, for adults as well as children. Its also tall enough that its not going to be jumped over even by a very large dog (horse could probbaly do it through) unless its was in a hallway or area where the animal had 100 yards to run before leaping over. Even my cat, wise in the way of baby and pet gates, found that vaulting over it was not as easy as it had been in the past with other gates.

Follow instructions before thinking itâs broken!
This was a great purchase! Installation was easy. You have the option of whether to use screws or not which was great because I didnât want to put holes in the wall. There WILL be a gap between the door and other side where it is supposed to latch UNTIL it has been positioned and tightened properly on both ends. The latch is most likely NOT broken. Both prongs are not supposed to open when sliding latch open. You have to pull up on the door while engaging the latch and swing forward or back.Iâve had the gate for about a month now with a 25 lb puppy jumping up against it and a 10 lb cat kicking off and jumping over it every day. So far has proven to be sturdy.Hope this helps!

almost perfect?
Purchased as baby gate to block our 14mo. old toddler from a 40″+ opening to our kitchen. Arrived on time, included extensions for wider openings, options for screw or tension mounting, metal/ wood esthetic is perfect for our contemporary style town home. Installation is easy, metal is heavy and sturdy. wood swinging door is light weight, plastic accessory & mechanism for closure is not as secure compared to the safety 1st gate we also use. Tension has to be adjusted perfectly to operate smoothly & many attempts were made until successful. it feels over time it the plastic closure may fail, so it’s almost perfect. the gate is essential for us now and even with those concerns we’re satisfied with the product and have no regrets.

Gate latch doesn’t work right
Almost all parts of this gate work and looks good, but the top latch to open the gate has two latch tongs that need to slide to an open position in order to be able to open the gate. When I slide the handle to an open position, the upper tong slides into the latch housing but the lower tong does not. I have to use a flathead screwdriver in order to pry that lower tong in order to be able to open the gate door. I have experimented with loosening the the tension on the tension bolts but all that does is to make the gate insecure. As I indicated, the gate looks good and it’s a good gate for our needs but the top latch is not working as expected.I will be looking for a replacement gate, as this is still the gate model that I want.—Got the replacement and same issue. I got ahold of someone at Summer Infant and she explained that the adjustment for the gate is very touchy. She called it “The Goldilocks Zone”. Loosened the adjustment ever so slightly and it works now for my puppy. I would NOT depend on that latch for a toddler at the top of the stairs. I will be sending the replacement gate back. I only opened the box just enough to test the new gate latch and see that it works just the same way. I opened the box not too little, not too much, but just right. Next owner will never notice that the box has been opened.

Hardy, well built and very functional.
The originally purchased version of this gate is up in the entrance to the doctor’s office in our veterinary clinic. It has been there for over a year with all extensions in place. It is opened and used over a hundred times per day by our team, yet it still functions very well and the dogs (who are trained to respect the gate) stay put!Note that we use it more as a swinging gate and have all locks taped open, it works great for our purpose in clinic. It still catches on the bottom, but is easy enough to open without the pups making a break for it to go play with our patients! We recently put one in at home and tested the locks there, they seem very functional. When this gate is locked, it takes some effort and knowledge to open, so I suppose it would keep children well contained.

I use this gate to block off my stairway for my little dog. It works perfectly. Has an automatic spring so the gate easily opens and stays open until you close it. Perfect for when you are carrying stuff up and down the stairs. It looks great. Quality product! Easy to install too.

After the first gate failed, we bought this as a gift for my first grandson. This gate easily anchors to the wall and is very sturdy. The kids are happy with it attached right to the wall, and are pleased with how nice it looks.

Using this gate in my basement rec room; keeps my grandchild safe from the stairs. Needed the extra width for my space; works really well!

Itâs looks really nice and is easy to set up but itâs not the best quality. Compared to our others, it is flimsy and harder to open and just feels like lower quality for the price. But nice to have an option that matches our decor.
