Find out what makes your dog do what dogs do.
The title threw me off at first, but what a useful collection of explanations of canine behavior! I first saw this book on a family member’s table. We adopted a dog from a shelter who was a blank slate, no skills at all. She did have instincts and behaviors that are part of every dog, though. The author does a good job of explaining the background behind the habit and what you can do to live with it or, even better, how to work with the behavior. I like the concise nature of the author’s descriptions: just enough information that I can close the book and remember what I need to know to better understand our dog. Quite a few human frustrations were overcome by the common sense and perception put forth in this book.

If you have a love of dogs … you’ll probably love this book
Purchased as part of a birthday gift for one of my nieces. She seemed to love it. But then, she has two dogs, a cat, and a couple of birds in her home. Filled with excellent photos and interesting facts, it’s a sure hit for the dog lovers in your life. Docked one star for the torn dust cover on the one I received, which made it appear like a used, second-hand book.

Excellent Resource for Dog People
I love this book. So reader-friendly and informative. It really gives you a dog’s perspective on so many super-common dog behaviors. I’ve had dogs my whole life and feel I understand them well but I still learned several new things. I particularly love that each chapter (one for each behavior) includes a section of what you can do to address each behavior, now that you understand where the dog is coming from. Brilliant. I first encountered a copy of this book in my veterinarian’s waiting room and am so glad I did.

Wonderful reference book
Wonderful reference book. I bought copies for friends who are dog parents. The only additional recommendation the book could have made would be to muzzle dogs who eat dung. I found that helps. Overall, the book is a good resource for understanding our dogs.EVERY dog parent will find something in this book useful. I know I did and we’ve been dog parents for 10 Years!!!

Fun book to read and laugh with.
As an owner and lover of dogs, this book answered lots of questions about my babies’ behavior. I found myself laughing out loud and connecting certain behaviors to each of my dogs! It’s the perfect gift book to dog lover friends. A friend of mine lent me his copy, and by page 4 I knew I had to have my own copy.

Dog owner
This book is very helpful. It helps you to understand your pet better. I would recommend this to anyone who has a pet and especially if you have never had a first pet before. I got this book because we recently rescue a dog that has been neglected. It is was a challenged at first but I think this book helped. He is doing better now.
