    My Cat Bible
This book was recommended to me by the vet technician who trims my cat’s claws. I borrowed it from the library and when I began to read it and implement so of the techniques, I realized I had to have my own copy! I’ve identified his areas that cause anxiety and I’m learning how to train him away from various anxieties. He and I have a wonderful relationship of trust and love now, thanks to this great book. It’s not just powerful cat psychology but it’s well written and fun to read!

    very informative
I’ve had cats most of my life and I’m now 71. We adopted a kitten recently and this book really helped me. I didn’t know cats were trainable. He has learned “good boy” and “no” and I’m working on a few others as well as training him to ride in the car. We are challenged by him because he “attacks” the resident cat. Working very hard on giving him plenty of stimulation while letting him know the attacks are not okay. I understand both cats better as a result of reading this book and it’s much cheaper than hiring an animal behaviorist!

The One Book You Need to Own if You Live with a Cat
Bottom Line: If you live with cats and would like to understand them better, this book about cat behavior is a must-have.I’ve lived with cats for 50 years and have developed a pretty good intuitive understanding of them. “Decoding Your Cat” confirmed many of the ideas or hypotheses I’ve had about cat behavior over the years. But this book – written by 17 experts in veterinary behavior – has also opened my eyes to many other facets of normal cat behavior.Whether you have a well-behaved cat, or one with behavioral problems, this book will help you understand specific cat behaviors and how they fit into a normal cat’s normal repertoire. In addition to giving you the “why” of these behaviors, the book also offers some proven, very specific techniques for eliminating, reducing, or redirecting unwanted cat behaviors. This book covers cat perception, cat learning, and cat emotions, and how each of these influences a cat’s behavior. It also spends a lot of time on cat communication. Understanding what cats are communicating to other cats and to their human companions is an important step in understanding cats in general.”Decoding Your Cat” is not perfect. There is a short list of recommended resources, but this book would have benefited greatly from a detailed bibliography. Research is cited in the book, but there is no detailed list of where to find this research. Despite these drawbacks, this book is written and edited by experts in veterinary behavior and is currently the most up-to-date book on cat behavior available. If you want to better understand cat communication and behavior, this is an excellent place to start.

    What is kitty doing?
I liked the clear questions followed by a brief paragraph explaining the behavior. It helps to demystify kitty’s behaviors. I don’t like the shortage of explanations, I suppose because it doesn’t address my niece’s cat’s routine. The biggest benefit of this paperback is that it is created by animal behaviorists- experts. Recommended.

Invaluable tool for every cat owner!
This book is exceptional! I bought this as a gift for a friend who needed to understand her cats better but after flipping through it myself I’ll probably buy another copy for myself! The format is extremely user friendly so that you can easily get the most information without having to read every word. Some behavioral books are formatted like novels so that you are forced to read them chapter by chapter to find exactly what you are looking for. Not with this book! You can jump around using titles of chapters and easily find topics with bold print. There is even a short, bulleted review of “what we learned” in each chapter, like a text book. Some might be scared away by the term text book but I think that makes it extremely user friendly. A must have for cat owners!!!

Top Notch Book on Cat Behavior!
I’m always trying to expand my knowledge about cats. This book came recommended to me and I wouod highly recommend this to anyone who cares about cats.

Well written information on cat behaviors
I just acquired a 2yo neutered and declawed sort of Russian Blue. I have to figure out what’s going on in his head. Ate ‘way too much when he arrived, probably because being out there in the jungle of feral cats was anxiety-producing. We are making our way with the help of several library books (and this one) to understand how to figure out cat behavior.

Cat behavior from the scientists who study it – yet very accessible and practical
The chapter, “Unlocking the Feline Mind” by Lisa Radosta is the most helpful information on cat training and how cats learn I’ve ever read. It’s worth the price of the book on its own.I’m on my second irascible hard-to-live-with cat in a 4-cat household, so I love resources that help me achieve harmony. The book is a collection of articles by Vet Behaviorists. I’ve been working with a vet behaviorist for 12 years, so some of the material like the guidance in “Living with Multiple Cats” by Leticia Dantas is already well ingrained in our home and I can’t recommend it highly enough. The book is well edited and organized with additional articles for new cat owners, introducing a new cat to existing cats and pets, setting up a feline dream home, how to correct common behavioral problems like soiling the house, excessive shyness and aggression. And a wonderful chapter on keeping your elderly cat healthy and stimulated.

  11. S. Walters

Written by the top experts in their fields. This book is a must read for all cat enthusiasts.

  12. CK

This is that rare thing, a book aimed at the general owner that explains a great deal of technical knowledge without compromise or condescension.Written in an accessible format with clear chapter and sub-headings and a review at the end of each section (useful for quick reference), this is a must for all cat owners. It is honest about what we do and do not know about cats and how to approach problems and solve them. Most importantly, it explains how and when to get professional help.It should be on every cat owner’s bookshelf and I will certainly be recommending it to my clients.
