A book for every school and humane society
It isn’t often books about dogs are written for the general public by authentic canine experts. Dr. Levine is precisely that. The brilliance of the book is that while it is written for young children, it conveys the essential elecments necessary not only to keep them safe around dogs, but also gives them the tools to understand dogs and the basics of their perceptions, desires and behaviors. That basic level of understanding of dogs (most adults don’t have the knowledge presented in the book) will improve outcomes for people and dogs well into the future.

Fantastic resource for parents and children.
This is a great way for parents to open up a dialogue with their child about animal behavior. It certainly sets the expectations of children so they know how to interact with our furry family members. It’s simple and not too over the top with explanations, which is precisely what you want when speaking to kids. I wish Dr. Levine would have written this book when my daughter was little!

    Great book
Perfect book for kids when you’re bringing home a puppy

    Important subject matter
Very informative book for young children about how to behave around dogs! I found the flow of the writing odd and disjointed for a kids book, but otherwise was a good read.

    Great for young kids
This book was easy to understand and hit all the important parts. It also left room for me to chat with my kids about our dog specifically. Also I love the inclusivity in the illustrations.

    Great for preschoolers
Exactly what I wanted for the preschoolers I will be reading to. Thank you! It’s just the right length and information for them!

    Wrong story inside
I just opened this book and it’s the wrong story inside – it’s Barnabas the Bad Mannered Bull Dog. I opened it past the return date and don’t know what to do with it now

The books are very nice, nice bright colours and they teach kids and parents how to treat animals. We have a covered porch, and have left a note on our account to “Please leave packages in the corner of the porch, behind the planter so as to not be seen from the road.” But what does the driver do? Leaves it on the steps, in the rain, and by the time we got home the box was soaked. It has rained here all day so would it have been so difficult to walk 2 or 3 steps and leave the package were it was requested? Amazon probably won’t publish this complaint but I can always post on other social media.

Super important topic that is not talked about enough. We need to learn and teach our kids how to read a dogs body language and what they’re trying to communicate to us.
